Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement

The Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement was signed in June 2009, by the Vancouver Board of Education, the BC Ministry of Education, Musqueam First Nation, the Métis Nation of BC, and the Urban Aboriginal community, which marked the school district’s commitment to enhancing Aboriginal students’ academic success in Vancouver schools from K-12. Through increasing Aboriginal students’ sense of belonging, pride, and self-esteem, while providing Aboriginal leadership opportunities mastery of skills, while enhancing cultural knowledge and community connections. The purpose of the Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement is to create a shared vision and commitment from all parties involved and to promote the success of Aboriginal students around the Vancouver district.

Goals of the Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement are to create:

  • A Sense of Belonging
  • Mastery of Skills
  • Connections to Culture and Community
